Frontline | Bambu Lab Unveils Next-Generation 3D Printer with 9 Independent Print Heads, Head Switching in as Fast as 6 Seconds
On November 3, Bambu Lab released the H3C, its third-generation flagship 3D printer, with the standard bundle starting at RMB 16,499. A RMB 1,000 discount applies during the launch period. As Bambu Lab's new-generation flagship, the H3C's upgrades focus not only on printing speed but centrally on multi-material printing. The new machine features three core technologies: the Swaptek™ Nine-Head Flash-Switch System, the top-mounted integrated AMS 3H feeding system, and a variable-diameter extruder. Multi-head switching is the core of this upgrade. The H3C is the first consumer-grade product to incorporate nine independent print heads, with head changes completed in as little as 6 seconds. Official data shows that each filament change produces only 38 mg of waste. The Swaptek™ Nine-Head Flash-Switch System gives each print head its own independent feed channel and active preheating, so filament in each channel stays loaded, eliminating the need for repeated retraction, cutting, and re-feeding. To address the precision issues caused by nine-head switching, Bambu Lab has upgraded the toolhead weight reduction design, micron-level precision compensation, and a fully automatic calibration system to reduce the impact of frequent switching on print quality. Multi-material printing places demands not only on the printer itself but also on filament management systems. Previously, printers and multiple AMS units had to be placed separately. The H3C introduces the new AMS 3H system, which integrates sealed filament storage, automatic feeding, and drying functions, mounted on top of the machine. The variable-diameter extruder aims to address material limitations. In addition to the standard 1.75 mm, it adds a 2.85 mm extrusion channel, giving the machine greater resistance to buckling, the ability to withstand higher push force during extrusion, and higher melt flow. As a result, the H3C is the first 3D printer capable of stably printing 75A TPU, the softest consumer-grade filament. This capability also makes it possible to mix soft and hard materials in a single print. For example, footwear products can use flexible material in areas requiring cushioning and rigid material in areas requiring support, reducing post-print assembly. In addition, the H3C supports CMYKW color-layering printing, mixed use of nozzles of different sizes, and automatic switching among toolheads for knife cutting, brush painting, embossing, and cold foil stamping, further expanding the processing boundaries of desktop 3D printers. Overall, the H3C launch reflects Bambu Lab's push to further expand the product boundaries of desktop 3D printers. Going forward, industry competition may shift from past battles over speed and precision toward materials...
